ethel rodriguez ———

A New York City native and artist that can’t be put into a box or category. She started her artist career young, constantly carrying around a sketchbook and pencil everywhere she went. In high school, became part of the National Art Honor Society and then went on to study Illustration at the School of Visual Arts for her two foundation years. She later went on to graduate from Queens College with both a B.F.A. in Studio Art with a Concentration in Painting and a B.A. in Art Education K-12. Apart from being an artist with her own series of artwork, she also has a passion for art education and believes that all students have a right to proper art education to build physical, mental, and emotional skills. If conveyed in the right way she believes art education can teach students to better assess and convey their own emotions, learning how to express them, give them an outlet to improve mental health and teach students of all abilities to improve and refine motor skills and build muscle memory.

Ethel is currently a private art virtual teacher for students of all ages, abilities, and levels. She designs her own curriculum with strong social-emotional undertones as well as reviews the Principles of Design, the Elements of Art and relevant artists. (Lesson plans and blog coming soon)

She also creates her own series of artwork that reflect on different chapters of her life, runs a small Etsy shop, creates short art tutorial videos aimed for Elementary aged children on Youtube, runs a small ‘paint and chill’ business, and often does commissions for Pet Portraits (because who doesn’t love their fur-babies?) as well as special-requested commissions such as murals, paintings, and designs.

In the future, Ethel hopes to dive into the Art Therapy realm and research new, unfounded methods to help improve meta cognition and social-emotional learning through the arts as therapy for children and adults of all ages.
